What is 5-Amino-1MQ?

5-Amino-1MQ is shorthand for 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, a small molecule investigated for its ability to inhibit NNMT. NNMT is an enzyme involved in nicotinamide metabolism and methyl-group transfer. The compound is frequently listed beside peptides by research suppliers, but its chemical class is different.

What has research examined?

Published experiments have examined how NNMT inhibition affects cellular metabolites, lipid formation in cultured adipocytes, and metabolic measurements in diet-induced obese mice. One study reported changes in adipocyte metabolism and reductions in several obesity-related measurements in mice. Another mouse study examined body composition, glucose regulation, insulin measurements, liver pathology, pharmacokinetics, and tissue distribution.
