What is Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8)?
Acetyl hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide often described by the trade name Argireline. Its sequence was designed with reference to part of the SNAP-25 protein, which participates in vesicle-fusion processes. Laboratory mechanism proposals should not be equated with botulinum toxin action in human skin, and the label on a vial does not identify or validate a finished cosmetic formulation.
What has research examined?
A randomized, placebo-controlled study of 60 participants assessed a topical Argireline preparation around the eyes. The authors reported improvements in wrinkle-related measurements in the studied group relative to placebo under that formulation and study design. Separately, an in-vitro penetration experiment with a cosmetic emulsion on human cadaver and guinea-pig skin found that most applied acetyl hexapeptide-8 was removed from the surface, small amounts were measured mainly in the outer skin layer, and none was detected in the dermis or underlying collection fluid in that setup. These results do not establish deep tissue delivery, a clinical neuromuscular effect, or effects for a different product.
A short topical cosmetic trial and in-vitro skin studies cannot validate a research powder or vial. Formulation, ingredient identity, concentration, and delivery context matter. This page does not recommend topical use, injection, preparation, or administration of any research product.
