Porcine-derived peptide-mixture research

Cerebrolysin

Cerebrolysin is a mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides and amino acids derived from porcine brain proteins. It is not one peptide with a single defined molecular mass or an interchangeable generic research powder.

Why there is no compound calculator on this page

Cerebrolysin contains multiple peptides and amino acids rather than one defined peptide with a single mg-to-molecule relationship. A generic vial-mass and U-100 syringe calculator would imply equivalence across mixtures and formulations that the available evidence does not establish.

Research overview

What is Cerebrolysin?

Cerebrolysin is made by breaking down porcine brain proteins into a mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides and amino acids. Its composition and manufacturing context are integral to the studied product. A research product bearing the same name is not automatically comparable with the formulations used in trials.

What has research examined?

A large randomized, placebo-controlled acute ischemic stroke trial enrolled 1,070 participants and did not find a statistically significant difference on its confirmatory combined primary endpoint. A small randomized pilot involving 32 people with mild traumatic brain injury reported improvements on selected cognitive measures, but the size and endpoint breadth limit generalization. A Cochrane review of acute ischemic stroke trials found no probable benefit for preventing all-cause death and reported a possible increase in nonfatal serious adverse events. The studies examine different neurological situations and cannot be collapsed into a single claim of neuroprotection.

Important limitation

The clinical evidence is heterogeneous, with a negative large stroke trial and small exploratory results elsewhere. The review’s adverse-event signal and product-specific formulation further limit interpretation. This page does not recommend use or validate the identity or quality of any seller’s mixture.
