Neuronal cell-survival research

Humanin

Humanin is a short mitochondria-associated peptide discovered through neuronal cell-survival experiments. Cell protection in Alzheimer-related models is not proof of a treatment in people.

Research overview

What is Humanin?

Humanin was identified in experiments looking for factors that could rescue neurons from certain Alzheimer-related insults. Sequence and expression may depend on mitochondrial genetic context and experimental construct. Humanin derivatives, such as S14G-humanin, are modified molecules and their results cannot automatically be assigned to an unmodified vial.

What has research examined?

An original functional-expression study reported that Humanin protected cultured neuronal cells from several tested familial-Alzheimer gene and amyloid-beta insults, while not affecting every cell-death trigger. Later reviews and derivative experiments discuss proposed protective pathways and mouse models. These experimental measurements do not show improved cognition, disease prevention, or safety of Humanin in a controlled human treatment trial.

Important limitation

Cell-rescue findings and modified-peptide studies cannot establish clinical neuroprotection for a vial labeled Humanin. Identity, biological activity, formulation, and human safety are not validated here.

Calculation boundary

The calculator performs concentration arithmetic only when a user enters a mass and liquid volume. It does not verify identity, formulation, purity, sterility, stability, compatibility, biological-unit equivalence, or whether reconstitution applies to a particular product. Do not convert IU or other biological units to mg without an authoritative, exact-product relationship.
