What is BPC-157?
BPC-157 is a 15-residue peptide sequence used in experimental studies, sometimes called a gastric pentadecapeptide in the literature. It has been examined in different injury and tissue models. The published name and sequence do not independently verify the identity, formulation, or purity of a vial offered by any seller.
What has researchers’ attention?
A study of surgically transected rat Achilles tendons reported stronger functional, mechanical, and microscopic healing measures in BPC-157 groups than saline controls, and examined cultured tendon cells. Another paper assessed ligament injury in rats. These are controlled animal and laboratory observations, not proof of benefit in people. A very small human pilot reported no measurable adverse changes in selected short-term assessments in two participants who had previously received BPC-157, but had no control group and did not test injury-healing effectiveness. FDA has stated that safety information for proposed compounded routes is inadequate and flagged potential immunogenicity and impurity-characterization concerns.
Two previously exposed participants cannot establish a reliable safety profile, and rat tissue findings cannot validate treatment of human injuries. FDA’s compounding concerns include limited route-specific safety data, possible immunogenicity, and characterization of peptide-related impurities.
