Follistatin 344 (FS344) names an alternatively spliced follistatin isoform studied in gene-transfer research. Results from a viral-vector gene-therapy trial are not evidence that a vial of protein has the same effect.

What is Follistatin 344?

Follistatin is a binding protein involved in regulating several TGF-beta-family signaling molecules. “FS344” identifies one gene-encoded isoform precursor in the published gene-transfer work. It is not a short synthetic research peptide, and the expression product of a viral vector differs from a separately manufactured protein formulation.

What has research examined?

A small phase 1/2a study in people with Becker muscular dystrophy used an adeno-associated viral vector carrying the FS344 sequence and assessed safety and exploratory muscle outcomes. The intervention was delivery of a gene, not a measured mass of protein solution. Follow-up publications discuss ambulation and the rationale for choosing this isoform, but their findings cannot establish efficacy or safety for an independently sourced Follistatin 344 vial.

Important limitation

The gene-transfer study and research protein are materially different products. Small exploratory outcomes cannot be turned into a generic muscle-growth claim, and no syringe conversion can bridge that gap. This page does not recommend an intervention, amount, or use.
