What is Liraglutide?
Liraglutide is a modified GLP-1 analogue that activates the GLP-1 receptor. Victoza and other liraglutide products have distinct approved indications, labeling, and pen-based delivery systems. The molecular identity alone does not make a research vial equivalent to any approved product.
What has research examined?
The LEADER randomized trial in people with type 2 diabetes at elevated cardiovascular risk found a lower rate of a composite cardiovascular outcome with the studied liraglutide product than placebo. FDA-submitted Victoza labeling specifies a prefilled solution, particular approved uses, contraindications, and a boxed thyroid C-cell tumor warning. These findings cannot be transferred to an unverified supplier vial.
