What is Dihexa?

Dihexa is a chemically modified angiotensin-IV-related molecule designed for greater stability and brain exposure in experimental models. It is better described as a peptidomimetic than as an ordinary intact peptide. Researchers have examined its interaction with hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the c-Met signaling system.

What has research examined?

Preclinical papers examined dihexa in cultured hippocampal neurons and animal learning models. One mechanistic study reported HGF binding and c-Met-related signaling, with changes in dendritic spine and synapse measurements under laboratory conditions. Earlier work assessed stability and spatial-memory measures in animals. These observations do not establish human cognitive benefit. FDA notes it has not identified human exposure data for dihexa acetate drug products and lacks important safety information.

Important limitation

Cell and animal findings cannot validate use in people or animals. The c-Met/HGF mechanism raises questions that are not resolved by these studies, and lack of human exposure data is a major uncertainty. Neither a “dihexa” label nor this arithmetic tool verifies identity, salt form, formulation, or safety.
